Years of pioneering.

More than 25 years ago, BMW Group Technology Office USA opened in Silicon Valley to act as a Silicon Valley-based R&D hub focused on scouting, evaluating, and developing cutting-edge technologies. As part of BMW Group’s global network of technology offices, BMW Group Technology Office USA connects with local partners, startups, and universities to advance digital services, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and electrified vehicle technologies, which have the potential to directly influence future models.

With the goal of taking the confusion and industrial elements out of EV charging, Designworks developed a "phygital" charging space. This vision paves the way for a future in which electric vehicles and charging live in harmony with the beautiful, welcoming spaces in which they’re located.

Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina is setting the stage for the future of automotive assembly. Our U.S. plant serves as an example of BMW Group's groundbreaking iFactory model, which is designed to improve efficiency and sustainability, using cutting edge technology like artificial intelligence, a circular economy, autonomous transport systems, and sustainable energy sources.

Robotics.

BMW is piloting the use of humanoid robots at Plant Spartanburg to support high-precision, ergonomically taxing assembly tasks.

MATERIA is a project by Designworks that brings a diverse set of biomes together with the BMW iX to inspire engineers, designers, and manufacturers to think about how we use sustainable solutions for a regenerative future.

Architects of the Future.

Designworks is a global creative consultancy and subsidiary of the BMW Group that functions as a "think tank" for both its parent company and external clients. Based in Santa Monica, California with offices in Munich and Shanghai, Designworks acts as a bridge between the BMW Group and the outside world, using their unique position as a consultancy to predict and shape how we will live and move in the coming decades.

BMW i Ventures.

Based in Silicon Valley, BMW i Ventures is the independent venture capital arm of The BMW Group, investing in startups shaping the future of automotive, manufacturing, supply chain, and sustainability. Since starting in 2011, the firm has $800M under management and has invested in over 75 startups, the majority of which are US-based.
