You can filter search results for alternating current (AC), direct current (DC) and high-power charging (HPC) stations using your car's navigation system or via the "Maps" tab in your My BMW App. You'll immediately see details about the charging stations, including the number of charging points, charging power, and availability. Further details, including photos and reviews of the charging station, opening hours and on-site amenities, such as bathrooms or restaurants, are also displayed.

Along with your BMW electric car, you get access to the BMW ChargingNetwork which boasts more than 180,000 charging points from top providers across North America. All these charging points are integrated in your BMW's navigation and My BMW App and automatically included in your route planning should a charge stop be required. For the most convenient payment processing within the BMW ChargingNetwork, simply register with Electrify America and Shell Recharge in the My BMW App once you have linked your vehicle. There's no need to use individual provider apps or a credit card when you are at the charging station of the many charging providers of the BMW ChargingNetwork.

The cost of using a public charging station varies depending on several factors, including the charging network, location, type of charger (Level 2 or DC fast charger), and local electricity rates. Many charging networks provide real-time pricing to the My BMW App, so you can see the cost of charging before you arrive at a station.

The length of time needed to charge your electric BMW depends on the type of charging station you're using, the type of BMW you're driving, and the current state of charge of your vehicle. Level 2 public chargers can take anywhere from 8-12 hours to charge from 0-100%, and are best used for overnight charging. DC Fast Chargers, however, usually have a 10-80% charge time of about 30-35 minutes.

When you use the My BMW App or your vehicle BMW navigation system, your route is optimized to recommend most convenient charging stops across the BMW ChargingNetwork based on traffic conditions and your battery's state of charge—ensuring you get to your destination in the fastest way possible.

The My BMW App and your vehicle's navigation system use cloud-based navigation to locate where exactly you are and coordinate how far you are from your destination and the closest charging stations on BMW ChargingNetwork. This data, combined with your vehicle's remaining range, allows BMW to recommend the most convenient stops along your route. Should you need to alter your destination or journey, BMW can then recalibrate your route and update these recommendations.

The BMW ChargingNetwork is one of the largest charging networks in North America with over 180,000 charging points, including both Level 2 AC Chargers and Level 3 DC Fast Chargers. BMW drivers can conveniently access the network via the My BMW App for seamless charging and payment processing. Drivers can also enjoy the Plug & Charge feature at supporting stations, allowing you to simply plug in and go—no apps or charger interaction needed. Currently, our partner network includes Electrify America, Shell Recharge, IONNA, Tesla Superchargers, EVgo, ChargePoint, Electrify Canada, BC Hydro, Blink, Electric Circuit, EV Connect, Flo, Florida Power & Light, Francis Energy, and Red E. More providers are being continually added to provide the best coverage for your BMW EV.

BMW electric vehicles are compatible with most public charging stations, including Tesla Supercharger stations. The most convenient way to charge in public is the BMW ChargingNetwork— a North America partner network with more than 180,000 charging points that are seamlessly integrated into BMW navigation and the My BMW App. Charging and payment processing for these BMW ChargingNetwork providers are conveniently managed via the My BMW App.

IONNA is a new fast-charging network backed by BMW and seven other leading global automakers: General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Group, Stellantis, and Toyota. This joint venture is developing a new, high-powered charging network with at least 30,000 chargers by 2030. IONNA is part of the expansive BMW ChargingNetwork, which boasts over 180,000 charging points in North America, all conveniently accessible through the My BMW App. BMW drivers can enjoy the Plug & Charge function at IONNA stations, allowing charging sessions to be automatically authenticated without interacting with the app or the charger. Simply plug in and walk away.

The IONNA network will have a large footprint across North America, with the first charging stations opening in December 2024 in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Texas. DC Fast Charging on the Combined Charging System (CCS) on Electrify America's network delivers charging speeds of up to 350 kW for capable vehicles. Every Electrify America site has chargers capable of speeds up to 150 kW. Some locations have chargers that can charge capable vehicles at speeds up to 350 kW. These high-powered chargers can add between 75 and 100 miles of range to your BMW EV, depending on model, or charge your EV's battery from 10 to 80% in about 35 minutes.

While the BMW ChargingNetwork has over 180,000 stations, there's a chance you may come across a station or provider that is not compatible with BMW electric vehicles. We recommend using the My BMW App or your vehicle's navigation to find stations that you can confirm are compatible with BMW.

The remaining charge that you wish your car to have on reaching your destination is probably set higher than you need it to be in the settings. If you know that you’re going to charge at your destination in any case, you can individually change this in the settings.

If you select the time-optimized charging option, the charge-optimized route planner selects the navigation that gets you to your destination fastest. In most cases, it’s quicker to charge the vehicle just partially and then repeat this, rather than charging to 100% once.

Slight resistance is completely normal. A firm pull is usually all that’s needed.
