Learn about BMW’s intelligent driver assistance systems and features.

Your BMW comes equipped with driver assistance systems, transforming the comfort, safety, and convenience of every drive. These systems utilize sensors to gather data on speed limits, vehicle proximity, lane markings, and more. They also incorporate GPS and navigation data to provide warnings through audio or visual alerts when potentially hazardous situations arise.

Advanced driver assistance systems go beyond warnings and actively intervene when necessary or preferred. They can apply brakes, adjust acceleration, or execute steering maneuvers to prevent accidents or ease your workload, especially in challenging driving conditions. Additionally, these systems assist with tasks like maneuvering and parking. While they provide valuable support to the driver, it’s important to note that the driver remains responsible for the act of driving.

DRIVER ASSISTANCE

EVERY DRIVE, TRANSFORMED

Highway Assistant

Allows for hands-free driving at speeds up to 85 mph on controlled-access highways. This features includes Active Lane Change, allowing you to confirm suggested lane changes with a glance at the side mirror. The driver must stay attentive and take over if needed.

Distance Control and Steering Assistant

Distance Control lets you set your desired cruising speed and following distance from the vehicle ahead. Your BMW's cameras and radar sensors detect when the vehicle ahead slows down its speed, automatically slowing your BMW down and, if necessary, gently applying the brakes. Meanwhile, the Steering Assistant takes care of lane centering by reading lane markings.

Lane Change Assistant

Effortlessly switch lanes on multi lane roads at speeds above 40 mph. Once activated, your BMW will smoothly transition when merging into slower traffic, and automatically adjust its speed to match. The vehicle will suggest lane changes when the navigation route requires it or when traffic rolls faster on an adjacent lane. Active Lane Change even allows you to confirm suggested lane changes with a glance at the outside side mirror.

Active Blind Spot Detection

Navigate with confidence using our Blind Spot Detection system, which employs sensors to detect vehicles in your blind spot. It signals their presence with visual cues in exterior mirrors and steering wheel vibrations.

Forward Collision Mitigation

This system utilizes a camera – and if equipped – radar sensors to scan the road ahead for vehicles, pedestrians, objects, and even bicycles. Warnings are issued to help prevent or mitigate accidents with vehicles ahead of you – and if needed, automatic braking is applied with controlled force.

Lane Keeping Assistant

Thanks to your vehicle’s forward-facing cameras, when you drift toward a lane marker without signaling, the system briefly steers your car back to the lane center, which you can easily override by steering yourself. You'll receive visual and haptic warnings, and if necessary, steering intervention.

Drive Recorder

Surround-view cameras record daily drives and critical traffic situations, allowing for playback of footage up to 40 seconds. Cruise through scenic routes and effortlessly capture the beauty of your surroundings, thanks to BMW's onboard cameras. You can even relive your journeys with video playback on the infotainment display. In the event of an collision, automatic image snapshots are taken to document the situation.

High Beam Assistant

Experience superior nighttime visibility. This intelligent system optimizes high beam usage by monitoring ambient lighting and traffic conditions via a camera sensor near the rear-view mirror. High beams are automatically activated when it's safe. When the system detects oncoming traffic, vehicles in the same direction, or sufficient ambient light from additional road lighting, it seamlessly switches off the high beams to avoid disturbing other drivers and pedestrians.

Emergency Stop Assistant

Stay safe with our Emergency Stop Assistant, which monitors your attentiveness while driving. If the system detects prolonged inattentiveness, it initiates a controlled emergency stop, bringing your vehicle to a standstill within its lane. Once the vehicle comes to a complete stop, hazard lights are activated for warning, and an emergency eCall is issued. You maintain control and can override the system at any time.

PARKING & MANEUVERING

HANDLE EVERY PARKING SITUATION WITH EASE

As depicted in the video above, Automatic Park Assistant is a smart system that automatically scans for open parking spaces. When initiated, it will park your vehicle in parallel, perpendicular, or diagonal spots, and guides you out when it’s time to leave.

Backup Assistant

Simplify backing up in challenging spaces like narrow alleys and tight driveways. To help you reverse, this system automatically steers the vehicle on the previously driven path while you control the gas and brakes. The Backup Assistant continuously records your manually driven routes at lower speeds.

Maneuver Assistant

Conquer challenging parking and tight maneuvering with our system that takes control of your vehicle – handling throttle, brake, gear changes, and steering. Maneuver Assistant allows you to automate up to 10 parking maneuvers like driving up your driveway or parking into your garage as many times as you want, after you have recorded the maneuver once in manual drive.

Remote Control Parking

Easily activated from the My BMW App, this feature offers automated maneuvering in and out of parking spaces without being in the vehicle.

Anti-Theft Recorder

This feature immediately notifies you in the My BMW App when the alarm sets off, capturing video from the surrounding area and sending exterior and interior footage to your phone.

Parking View including Rear View Camera

Elevate your parking and reversing experience with Parking View. This system creates a full spatial view around your vehicle by combining front, rear, and side mirrors with 3D graphics - delivering unique perspectives on the iDrive screen.

Active Park Distance Control with Side Protection

While reversing your vehicle, this feature will activate emergency braking on standing objects to avoid potential rear or side collisions.
