What is the range of the BMW i5?

The BMW i5 Sedan models offer impressive range – from 270 to 295 miles in the i5 eDrive40, and from 240 to 256 miles in the i5 M60 when driving under ideal conditions.

Does the BMW i5 have regenerative braking?

Yes. The BMW i5 Sedan models have regenerative braking, so that power can be recovered from deceleration. Regenerative braking allows more of your electric vehicle’s range to be extended. BMW’s range-increasing technology includes two Energy Recuperation Modes, so you can tailor your driving experience exactly as you want. Put it in driving position “D” for a seamless feel, similar to the braking experience in a typical gas-powered vehicle. In this mode, the vehicle’s sensors dynamically adjust the level of energy recuperation. Or put it in active driving position “B” for the maximum amount of recuperation each time the accelerator is released. This mode allows for virtually no use of the brake pedal in urban traffic.

How long does a BMW i5 require for charging?

The amount of time required to charge a BMW i5 Sedan varies depending on the power source. Using a 240V outlet with the standard Flexible Fast Charger or available BMW Wallbox, the BMW i5 can charge from 0-100% in less than 10 hours. Or, with a public DC Fast Charger, 100 miles of range can be added – with 10 minutes of charging (i5 eDrive40), or 11 minutes of charging (i5 M60).

The BMW i5 M60 is an all-wheel drive electric vehicle with dual electric motors providing power to the four wheels independently. The BMW i5 eDrive40 is a rear-wheel drive electric vehicle with a characteristically sporty feel.

Activate Plug and Charge for your BMW EV with Electrify America, the nation’s largest DC fast charging network.

STEP 01: DETERMINE YOUR BMW EV’S PLUG AND CHARGE STATUS

Use the eligibility chart above to determine if your BMW EV is Plug and Charge ready, or if you need to visit your BMW dealer.

STEP 02: SET UP YOUR BMW ID

If you haven’t already, set up your BMW ID from your BMW EV.

STEP 03: ENROLL IN ELECTRIFY AMERICA’S COMPLIMENTARY CHARGING PLAN

From the My BMW App, enroll in the Electrify America Complimentary Charging Plan via the following steps:

Download and/or open the My BMW App. Add your new electric BMW (or access your current vehicle) within the App.

On the vehicle status page, scroll to the “Electromobility” section, then click on “View all on Electromobility.” Once in the Electromobility menu, scroll down to “Services” and click on “Electrify America.”

Get a charging contract and confirm EA’s access to your My BMW App data. Then select “Redeem a new Premium Offer” and create an Electrify America account (or choose “Transfer an existing Premium Offer” if you already have an account).

Confirm the applicable Premium Offer and enter the enrollment code provided by your BMW Center and BMW Welcome Email. Enter your credit card details and then you should see your BMW EV model listed with the premium Charging Plan selection activated.

STEP 04: ACTIVATE PLUG AND CHARGE IN iDRIVE

From the iDrive main menu, select (1) Apps, then (2) Charging, (3) Plug and Charge, (4) Available Contract, and (5) Download and Use. You are now ready to use Plug and Charge. Please note that Plug and Charge will be enabled for all BMW IDs on your vehicle – including Guest profiles – by default.

STEP 05: USE PLUG AND CHARGE AT ANY ELECTRIFY AMERICA PUBLIC CHARGING STATION

You can now go to any Electrify America charging station, plug in your EV, and walk away – thanks to Plug and Charge, charging is automatically initiated.
