When you’ve got an armful of groceries for the family, or a load of lumber for your home improvement projects, your X model is your best shopping assistant. Power tailgates make loading simple, and split-fold down rear seats increase cargo capacity to accommodate almost anything.
Lots of local trips can rack up the miles – meaning more time spent filling up. The BMW SUV lineup includes fuel-efficient plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, which can drive all-electric on errands or commutes. Or, go all-in with the BMW iX – an all-electric SUV that’s driving the future.
Ranging from all-electric to high-performance options, BMW X SUVs come in a variety of engine and powertrain configurations. BMW TwinPower Turbo engines are crafted for reliability and power output and come standard across many X models. M TwinPower Engines offer enhanced power and sportier performance for drivers seeking more powerful driving dynamics. Fully electric powertrains, like the iX, and plug-in hybrid powertrains, like the X5 xDrive50e, are also available.
Most BMW SUVs include xDrive, BMW's intelligent all-wheel drive system, as a standard or optional feature. The specific engines and powertrains vary by model, with larger models like the X5, X6, and X7 offering more powerful engine options compared to compact models like the X1.
BMW SUVs offer a suite of advanced driving features to help you travel with extra confidence. Standard safety features across the X SUV lineup include multiple airbags, electronic stability control, anti-lock braking, and traction control. Most models come standard with Active Driving Assistant, which typically includes Active Blind Spot Detection, Speed Limit Info, Lane Keeping Assistant, and Forward Collision Mitigation. In addition, the available Active Driving Assistant Professional package adds safety features that varies by model, such as Steering and Lane Keeping Assistant, Lane Change Assistant, Emergency Stop Assistant, and Evasion Aid assist and Highway Assistant with Active Lane Change.
Driver assistance features are not a substitute for the driver’s responsibility to operate the vehicle in a safe manner. Always pay attention to traffic, surroundings, and road conditions while using Highway Assistant. Weather, traffic, road conditions, cellular service and map data may affect performance of driver assistance features. The Highway Assistant is not available in Alaska, Puerto Rico or Hawaii. Please refer to your owner’s manual or your BMW Center for more information.
Known for sophisticated and spacious interiors, BMW SUVs generally become more luxurious as model sizes increase. Across the lineup, standard interior features typically include power heated front seats, climate control, and modern infotainment systems, while premium available options add massage functions, available premium audio systems, and advanced connectivity features.
Compact models, like the X1, feature quality materials such as Veganza upholstery, the standard BMW Curved Display, and many practical comforts. Mid-size models, like the X3, introduce premium touches including available Extended Merino Leather upholstery, higher-quality trim, advanced infotainment, and comfortable seating with power adjustments and lumbar support. Larger models, like the X5 and X6, deliver more luxurious cabins with available Extended Merino Leather, real wood trim, ambient lighting, premium sound systems, Panoramic Moonroofs, and available heated and ventilated seats. The flagship X7 offers the most luxurious interior with available Full Merino Leather, Glass Controls, 5-Zone Automatic Climate Control, and premium materials throughout. The all-electric iX features cutting-edge design with sustainable materials, minimalist interiors, and advanced technology.
When equipped with a factory-installed trailer hitch, BMW SUVs have an impressive towing capacity—that generally increases with model size. The X1 has a towing capacity of 3,499 pounds, making it suitable for small trailers. The mid-size X3 can tow up to 4,001 pounds depending on engine choice. The larger X5 and X6 significantly increases capacity up to 7,209 pounds. The flagship X7 leads the lineup with the highest towing capacity at 7,507 pounds, making it ideal for larger trailers and recreational equipment. The all-electric iX typically offers a towing capacity of 3,499 pounds due to its electric powertrain. The BMW XM Label does not currently have a trailer hitch available. Towing capacity can vary depending on trailer brakes, hitch type, and load distribution.

From compact and agile to large and spacious, BMW offers a range of sizes across the X SUV lineup. Space and seating are often a primary consideration: compact SUVs seat five comfortably with efficient cargo, midsize models offer a more spacious layout, while full-size models provide the most interior and cargo room, ideal for those needing extra storage. Handling also varies with vehicle size. Compact and midsize models offer agile, responsive driving dynamics, while larger models prioritize comfort and smooth performance. Towing capacity increases substantially with size—compact models tow up to 3,499 pounds, midsize models 4,001–7,209 pounds, and full-size models up to 7,507 pounds. Practicality and maneuverability favor smaller models for city driving and parking, though parking assistance features and packages are available on all SUV models. Consider your lifestyle, driving habits, and family size to determine which size best fits your needs.
