SUSTAINABILITY AND BMW i
Reinventing mobility with sustainability in mind takes more than just a vision. The BMW Group was the automotive leader of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for 8 consecutive years, starting in 2005, and the only automotive company to have been continuously ranked by Dow Jones since the index began in 1999. BMW i created new standards with the energy-intensive carbon fiber manufacturing process that was set up in Moses Lake, Washington. There, it can be operated using clean energy from one of the world's largest hydroelectric power plants, the Grand Coulee Dam.
The BMW i plant in Leipzig is also fully powered using electricity from four wind turbines, installed specifically for that purpose on the plant's premises. Additionally, the energy consumption required to produce cars in the Leipzig plant was reduced by 50%, just as the water consumption was lowered by as much as 70%.
With EfficientDynamics, BMW has set for itself the goal of continuously reducing emissions while increasing driving pleasure. BMW i uses this wealth of innovative technologies and goes even further - from design to production, and from the useful life of a vehicle to its disposal. Every detail is based on sustainability, because sustainability is an attitude that has no beginning and no end.
