M Power Tour

The power and precision of M

BMW's legendary M vehicles are refined for maximum performance at M division headquarters in Munich, Germany. Harnessing the latest innovations in automotive technology, it is here that BMW M engineers take Ultimate Driving Machines® to another level of power and agility, balanced with exacting craftsmanship.

The first official product of BMW Motorsport was the 3.0 CSL (coupe sport lightweight) of 1972, followed by the first car to bear the famous 'M': the M1. Fast-forward 36 years, to the release of the fourth-generation M3 for 2008. Redesigned down to the last detail, it not only redefines M3 exhilaration, it raises the bar for all high-performance sports cars.

Boasting a high-revving, lightweight 414-hp V-8 engine and sport-tuned suspension, the M3 is now available with the innovative 7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) with Drivelogic. By switching between two transmission structures, M DCT transfers a constant flow of engine power to the rear wheels without the slightest disruption of tractive force. Gears can be changed by using steering wheel-mounted paddles, a manual shift lever or, for even more dynamic comfort, an automatic mode. Using M DCT, the M3 races from 0 to 60 in just 4.5 seconds -- 0.2 seconds faster than the standard 6-speed manual transmission.*

BMW celebrates the introduction of the M Double Clutch Transmission by letting the public experience its lightning-quick gearshifts at the 2009 M Power Tour.
